5 tips for finding the ideal rug
A beautiful rug often adds that little bit extra to a room. Because rugs make a room look cozier and more homey, they are increasingly being used for work environments or projects. A rug can be important for the amount of colour, atmosphere and appearance of a room, but also for more practical matters such as soundproofing and indoor air quality. In environments where a hard floor, such as PVC, is the most practical solution, a rug can therefore be a good solution. In this article, we'll give you 5 tips to help you find the perfect rug for your project.
1. The right function
If the furniture is going to be moved a lot, then a deep-pile rug, for example, is not a practical choice. Do you want to make more use of zoning with the rugs , so that the space is divided into different parts? Or is it more the intention that the carpet makes the room one?
Tip: if you have chosen, for example, all legs on the rug, then place all legs of all furniture on the rug. This also applies to the choice of either placing half of the legs on the rug or none of the legs on the rug for all furniture. This makes the room look more orderly..
2. The right material
It is essential to think about the material of the rug. A space with a lot of traffic usually requires a wear-resistant, more maintenance-friendly material. In that case, it is best to opt for a carpet with a loop pile, which is slightly more durable, easier to keep clean and very user-friendly.
Then you can also look at long-pile or low-pile carpet, flat colour or striped/mottled/etc. A deep pile rug goes well with an interior with a clean look, because the looser piles (ie, yarns) also have a looser look and contrast with the rest of the interior. If you still want to go for the minimalist look, there are also plenty of options in the short-pile rug section. Here too, you can choose from a wide range of structures, colours and thicknesses.
Tip: In high-traffic areas, opt for a mottled low-pile carpet, which is less contagious and easier to maintain than a solid-coloured carpet..
3. The right size
It is important to choose the right size for the room. For example, a rug that is too large can make your room look small. A large rug is usually suitable for large rooms where the furniture is loose in the room.
Tip: use zoning , and place all furniture (in that zone) with the legs on the rug. This visually creates a demarcated space in a larger space.
A rug that is too small can blend into the room or make the room appear smaller, just like a rug that is too wide in a narrow room. If the space in which you work is somewhat smaller, it is better to opt for a smaller carpet in front of the furniture. Then place the rug against the legs of the furniture.
Tip: take into account distances and openings, a rug that is too close to an inward opening door can block the entrance
4. The Right shape
Then you can choose from different shapes of rugs. You can usually choose from square, rectangular or round. Square or rectangular rugs are the most widely available, and for a reason. A rectangular or square rug fits in almost any room.
If you want a slightly more special shaped rug, you can also go for a round rug. Round rugs fit well in spaces where there are already many straight lines and rectangles. This contrast breaks the straight trend in the room and makes the room more playful, just like the use of complementary colours.
Finishing options
Blind banding
For a perfect finish, the rugs can be finished with matching cotton blind banding.
Linen banding
For a more luxurious effect, the rugs can be finished with a 5 cm wide linen coloured banding for a seamless edge finish.
Festooning
The most traditional finishing method is festooning, where the colour of the rug matches the colour of the border. All rugs come standard with a matching yarn border.
