Cullen House Student Accommodation

Located in the heart of Glasgow, this newly built modern student accommodation is fitted with over 10,000m2 of Tarkett flooring. The development consists of 551 student bedrooms, communal and study areas, corridors, kitchens, games rooms and reception spaces - each with unique design styles and performance requirements.

The interior concept was designed by Manalo & White Architects, who teamed up with Tarkett to provide them with durable, low-maintenance, and design-led flooring that could withstand intense daily footfall while helping create an inviting environment for students. The Tarkett team collaborated closely with the client and architect to specify the most suitable products for each area.

A project using Tarkett’s multi-material design

When creating the design concept, Manalo & White Architects’ project brief highlighted several key priorities that included high durability to withstand heavy traffic, improved acoustic performance, slip resistance where necessary, a wide range of design possibilities, as well as long-term value. Throughout this project, Tarkett fulfilled those requirements and delivered flooring solutions that balanced performance, aesthetics and practicality for a dynamic student living environment.

Durable, Safe and Stylish Flooring Specification

The iD Click Ulitmate 30 collection was used in every bedroom, chosen for its scratch and stain resistance, ultra-matt finish, warm underfoot feel, acoustic properties (19dB option used where enhanced sound reduction was required), and unrivalled natural wood design. The architect selected Delicate Oak Almond as it gives a high-end residential feel without compromising durability.

In shared kitchens and dining areas, Tarkett’s iQ Eminent, iQ Surface, and Mixonomi LVT have been installed. These products have a high resistance to scuffs, scratches and stains and are easy to clean and maintain. This supports long-term maintenance efficiency for the accommodation operator.

The finished accommodation offers a durable, contemporary interior with flooring solutions that enhance both student comfort and long-term operational efficiency.
