Carpet Tiles
DESSO by Tarkett is a leading carpet tile brand with more than 85 years of experience in manufacturing high-quality, innovative flooring. DESSO believes in the Beauty of Circularity: achieving this through continual innovation in design and manufacturing, and a commitment to work with our customers to create more sustainable and healthier spaces for humans and the environment.
Made to be Remade
DESSO carpet tiles are designed to be disassembled at the end of a life well served. With ReStart, we welcome back DESSO carpet tiles free of charge, where yarn and EcoBase backing are separated for recycling.
Health & Well-being
In addition to circularity and aesthetic appeal, we design our carpet tiles for material health. We assess our materials according to Cradle-to-Cradle® methodology, offering complete transparency and peace of mind.
Mix and Match
DESSO Carpet Tiles are designed to work seamlessly with other Tarkett ranges, such as Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT), offering a wide variety of styles, colours and materials to suit any project need.
Clears the Air® - DESSO AirMaster®
We are living, breathing beings on a living, breathing planet. That’s why we at Tarkett believe it is essential to protect the air we breathe.
With its patented technology, DESSO AirMaster® carpet tiles capture and retain fine dust - microscopic particles small enough to be inhaled deep into the lungs - 8 times more effectively than smooth floors and 4 times more than standard carpet1.
AirMaster Classic, Earth and Sphere share a harmonious colour palette with BAUX acoustic panels, offering designers the freedom to play, mix and match across two architectural elements while improving interior health and well-being.
DESSO AirMaster® is available in a variety of patterns, allowing designers to choose from different visual designs to suit any aesthetic or style preference.

The Beauty of Circularity
We believe we have a responsibility to do more with less. To design, produce, sell and recycle in a way that generates less carbon and waste while contributing to greater comfort, better health, and increased well-being - for humans and the environment alike. This is what we like to call the Beauty of Circularity, which focuses on three distinct areas.
Design
Rooted in Cradle-to-Cradle principles, all our design decisions start at the end to ensure the circularity of our products.
Materials
Working with industry partners, we limit the use of virgin ingredients, actively recovering valuable materials otherwise destined for waste.
Circular Systems
We recognise that we are responsible for the full life cycle of every material we work with, so through ReStart, we reclaim and recycle materials for the next generation of flooring.
The Evolution of DESSO EcoBase
Restless innovators, we are constantly seeking ways to evolve our products and enhance material choices. Our newest evolution of EcoBase carpet tile backing sees bio-based pine rosin replace a petroleum-based resource, resulting in a 5% material change.
This subtle, yet impactful, adjustment reduces each tile’s Circular Carbon Footprint by on average 20%2, our lowest yet, and we remain focused on shrinking this further. With continuous innovation, EcoBase remains 100% recyclable and Cradle to Cradle Gold-Certified®, thanks to DESSO’s closed-loop system.
The Advantages of Carpet Tiles
DESSO carpet tiles and planks are used in numerous commercial interiors, offering a wide range of design options. Carpet tiles are a great choice for both commercial and residential spaces due to their versatility and great value. From affordable carpet tiles to luxury carpet tiles, we offer something for everyone.
Thanks to a variety of colours, designs, textures, sizes and installation methods, modern carpet tiles give room for creativity and order. For example, wayfinding and zoning in office spaces and education settings. Carpet tiles are suitable for high-traffic areas and can be easily replaced if damaged.
The modular nature of carpet tiles makes them easy to work with and manoeuvre. Commercial carpet tiles (also known as carpet squares) offer a perfect fit for various floor coverings, making them ideal for creating a new floor or upgrading existing spaces. There is usually significantly less cutting waste compared to wall-to-wall carpet, making it a better choice for circular design, and it can be combined with other floor types such as Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) or Engineered Wood. Compared to other types of flooring, carpet tiles stand out for their easy installation, low maintenance, and cost-effectiveness.
Can carpet tiles be recycled?
Yes! Carpet tiles can be recycled.
As the world learns about the impacts of climate change, manufacturers around the world have been looking at how to reduce their impact on the environment. Carpet tiles can cover large amounts of space, and as such, it is important to understand how to prevent them from causing damage to the environment.
For more than a decade, we have been on a journey towards the circular economy, learning how to design our products in such a way that we can recover, separate, and recycle them without loss of quality. This approach is something we like to call the Beauty of Circularity.
Ongoing innovations are focused on further improving carpet tile recyclability to meet future sustainability goals.
Installation & Maintenance
How do you install carpet tiles?
To ensure correct and proper installation of carpet tiles, the installation should always take place in conditions as close to those of the occupied space or building as possible. This allows the material to acclimatise.
Professional fitters can ensure carpet tiles are fitted perfectly for a seamless finish.
Subfloors should be clean, level, dry and free from contaminants, and relative humidity should be considered beforehand.
Once the working area is coated with a tackifier and the application is completely dry, the tiles can be installed using standard fitting techniques. A range of accessories, such as tackifiers, double-sided tapes, and fitting kits, are available to assist with the fitting process. Depending on the subfloor, it is also possible to use adhesive-free installation methods such as TarkettTape™, which provides a solution for protecting raised access floor panels and ensures the tiles fit securely.
Methods for laying carpet tiles
In the past, the approach with carpet tiles was to offer a more convenient alternative to wall-to-wall carpet without compromising on the seamless appearance. Now, with carpet tiles taking various shapes and sizes, from traditional square format to more expressive plank options, carpet tiles can be laid in various ways to achieve bolder and more purposeful aesthetics. Different styles and ranges of carpet tiles allow designers to select the right carpet tile for each project, ensuring the flooring matches the project's style, durability, and design requirements.
Modern carpet tiles are now designed in such a way that installation methods can be completely random or structured to achieve a certain look. The power of modular design gives users creative control to customise floor layouts and enhance the overall style of any space.
As design trends for offices, schools, and other public buildings evolve, it is now more common than ever to see the modularity of a carpet tile used with intent alongside other flooring materials, like Luxury Vinyl Tiles, to create wayfinding, zoning, or boundaries between specific spaces.
This variety gives designers and installers more freedom to experiment with design, to merge the commonly used grey carpet tiles with other formats to inject colour, form, and movement into a space.

How do you clean carpet tiles?
Knowing how to clean carpet tiles is essential to prolonging the life of your carpet.
In addition to a cleaning and maintenance regime, placing dirt barrier zones at entrances will help to prevent excessive soiling indoors by providing scraping and absorbing effects. Combining solutions such as DESSO Defend and Protect provides this capability.
Daily, periodic, and deep cleaning are recommended to keep carpet clean and hygienic, and given installation and maintenance instructions should be observed for the type of carpet you have. A three-step maintenance program is generally recommended, which will help to handle day-to-day soiling as well as periodic stains and spillages.
