non slip flooring Safetred Wood

Not all Safety Flooring is the same

Our mission is to help you create healthier spaces by making sustainable flooring that is good for people and good for the environment.

When it comes to slip resistance within resilient floor coverings there are 2 options: sustainable slip resistant and non-sustainable slip resistant floors.

Non-sustainable safety floors achieve their slip rating through surface embossing which will reduce over time once installed, this occurs due to abrasion through foot traffic, cleaning and maintenance.

All of our Safetred flooring is manufactured with aluminium oxide or silicon carbide which runs through the floor itself, this ensures it’s slip resistant for the entire lifetime of the floor and not just until the surface layer wears away, making it a true sustainable slip resistant floor.

Safety floor is required in any area that has the possibility of being contaminated by water or grease as an example, as it reduces the risk of a person slipping. Our array of Safetred designs keep you safe without compromising on your creativity and project requirements.

So why choose a Tarkett Safetred safety floor?

Our Heritage

In 1948 Marley Floors was founded by Owen Junior Aisher, four years later in 1952 the first Vinyl floor tile was manufactured.

Fast forward to the late 70’s and the Safetred brand was launched. Safetred was a huge hit with many councils, including The Greater London Council, favouring it as the go to safety floor in both refurbishment and new build specification projects.

The Safetred collection quickly grew as Safetred Extra launched in the late 80’s, followed by Safetred Universal in the early 90’s and Safetred Dimension in the late 90’s.

Tarkett purchased Marley at the end of 2004 and continued to expand the Safetred collection to provide a fast and reliable solution for all environments. Investment was made to ensure Safetred products would continue to be the most sustainable in the market containing 40% recycled material and that no Safetred floor would need to end up in landfill or incineration.

Staying true to the Marley heritage, Tarkett still manufacture vinyl safety floor tiles and are one of the only manufacturers to do so.  Safetred Universal still remains the only safety floor solution that is available in roll, tile, compact and acoustic formats in an R10, R11 and R12 slip resistance.

Health Benefits

Phthalates

Phthalates are a type of plasticiser, an ingredient which is used in products including flooring,  While the use of some phthalates is uncontroversial, others are believed to have a harmful effect on our health, causing damage to the liver, kidneys, lungs and reproductive system.

Phthalates have either been banned or are heavily regulated under EU and UK law in toys and child-care articles for use by a child under three years of age, cosmetics and food containers.

Although the harmful effects associated with phthalates have not been proven beyond reasonable doubt, Tarkett completely eliminated them from our manufacturing process back in 2009.  All of our Safetred products are 100% phthalate-free protecting your health and providing peace of mind.

VOC’s

Research has shown that poor indoor air quality can lead to respiratory issues and what's even more shocking is that indoor air is 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air!

Sadly 1 in 11 children in the UK suffer from Asthma, this is more than any other country in Europe. Knowing  air pollution is a major cause of asthma attacks, choosing a floor with significantly low VOC levels would be beneficial.

All of our Safetred floors have VOC levels that are 10 times lower than European standards.

UK Safety Flooring

A Sustainable Solution

Not only is the Safetred collection 100% recyclable but it also contains 40% recycled content.

Thanks to our ReStart® Programme, when your floor reaches its end of life, we can take it back and recycle it so it doesn’t end up in landfill or incineration.  The sad truth is that even though a floor can be recycled, it very rarely is as manufacturers can’t facilitate the recycling. Tarkett have 9 in-house recycling centres and will work with you to ensure we create a closed loop system.
